How warm is too warm for an outlet?
An outlet should not become notably hot, smell burned, discolor or soften. Stop using it and request prompt evaluation when those signs appear.
Why didn't the breaker trip?
A loose connection can generate heat below the breaker's overcurrent threshold. Breakers do not detect every resistive heating condition.
Can the appliance cause the heat?
Yes. A damaged plug, high load or appliance problem can contribute. The receptacle, circuit and connected equipment need separation during diagnosis.
