What a subpanel can solve

A subpanel can organize circuits near an addition, basement, workshop or equipment area, provide additional breaker spaces, or support a renovation with a defined feeder. It does not increase the utility service rating and should not be used to bypass an overloaded or unsuitable main panel.

Landmark reviews the proposed loads, feeder path, source-panel capacity and physical location before sizing or pricing the installation.

Core installation decisions

The feeder conductors and overcurrent protection are selected for the permitted load and wiring method. Downstream neutral and equipment-ground paths are kept properly separated, and the enclosure, working space, labeling and circuit protection are coordinated with the environment and use.

Frequently asked questions

Will adding a subpanel increase my home's amperage?

No. It adds distribution capacity and breaker spaces, but the service and supplying feeder still limit the available electrical capacity.

Can a subpanel be installed anywhere?

No. The location must satisfy access, working-space, environmental and occupancy restrictions. The feeder route and the equipment being served also affect the choice.

Why are neutral and ground separated in a subpanel?

Downstream separation helps keep normal neutral return current off equipment-grounding paths and bonded metal parts. The service and feeder arrangement determine the correct connection points.
